2009 Itinerary for the Pilgrimage in Southern France
(2010 Itinerary will be posted as it becomes available.)
With Ani Williams
and special guest Henry Lincoln,
author of Holy Blood—Holy Grail and BBC filmmaker.
Day 1 – Saturday, May 16:
Our van will pick you up in Toulouse at the Blagnac international airport
at noon. At 1:00 pm we depart for our beautiful retreat center Les Labadous,
where we will remain for 7 nights near Rennes Le Chateau. Our drive
takes us through beautiful rolling hills and vineyards of the Pays Cathar
(Cathar country). We have time for a nice walk in the lush beauty here.
Dinner on site. (Dinner is included in tour cost). We will have a brief
overview, tea and relaxing harp songs before retiring.
Day
2 – Sunday, May 17:
Breakfast. (All breakfasts are included in tour cost). Group circle
to share our intentions for the journey. The grounds at Les Labadous
have a powerful, nurturing earth element with a strong Magdalene energy.
This valley is full of rich mineral deposits, which seem to sing through
this magical valley and the River of Colors flows gently through. The
plentiful veins of gold and silver were mined here since Roman times.
This is also the land of iron rich red earth and pure white china clay.
The red and white are potent elements used in alchemical transformation,
which naturally has this same action in pilgrims who come to this place
of refuge. We will take time to explore and listen to the land and the
voices of nature. Ani will guide group chanting to set the tone for
our journey. Light picnic lunch at Les Labadous.
Afternoon:
Henry Lincoln, author of Key to the Sacred Pattern and co-author of
Holy Blood, Holy Grail is our illustrious guide today. A short jaunt
up the hill takes us to Rennes Le Chateau to experience the famous Tour
Magdala, the Villa Bethania, museum and the grail church of Mary Magdalene.
This site has been strategic to Romans, Visigoths, Merovingians, Knights
Templar and guardians of the grail up to modern times. This is a place
made for dreaming and the presence of Mary Magdalene and deep mysteries
abide here. Dinner with Henry in RLC at the Jardin de la Marie. After
dinner talk with Toby and Gerda Dobler, modern Knights Templar and custodian
of the Templar order of Mary Magdalene. (Picnic lunch and Dinner included
in tour cost).

Day
3 – Monday, May 18:
Breakfast. We drive through Lavaldieu (Valley of God) to spend the day
in Rennes le Bain. This is a place of the goddess and site of healing
warm spring waters and ancient stone baths which the Romans built on
the earlier Celtic sites. Roman statues of Isis from the 1st and 2nd
centuries CE have been uncovered here. We visit the Roche Tremblant
(The rock that trembles with an ancient tone) and the Throne and Well
of Isis with a healing red spring. (The local name for this powerful
seat is ‘the devil’s armchair’….call it what
you will, but it is a place of power from ancient times). Afternoon
free with options to bathe in the warm waters, stroll along the river
paths or just sit and integrate the powerful energies. Dinner in the
town square.
Day
4– Tuesday, May 19:
Depart for Puivert, the castle of the Troubadours, where we will hear
Cathar and Troubadour harp songs and stories. We will see Our Lady with
her beloved Unicorn in the medieval tapestries and some of the troubadour
instruments which were used to spread the Cathar message of love. Afterward,
we drive several miles to Nebias, the magical Druid—Fairy wood
and fabulous white stone natural labyrinth. We will have a picnic lunch
here and muse with the ancient trees and stones, whose stories are waiting
to be heard. No host dinner at a nice restaurant on the way home. (Picnic
is potluck—we will stop at the local market in the morning on
the way out of town).
Day
5 – Wednesday, May 20:
Breakfast. We take a short morning drive to Alet le Bain, site of the
extensive basilica ruins and Jewish mystery school on the beautiful
River Aude. We will visit the mysterious Templar carvings on the house
said to have been one of Nostradamus’ abodes. Picnic lunch on
the river. We drive up the hill to the ancient chapel at San Salvayre,
which dates most likely to pre-Roman times. As with many chapel sites,
these were constructed over much earlier ruins and places of power.
There is a magic here which cannot be described. Dinner at at L’Eveche,
the old bishop’s quarters. (Dinner not included in tour price.
Prices range from about 15€ to 22€).

Day 6 – Thursday, May 21:
Breakfast. Drive to Bugarach, the sacred mountain of Jules Verne fame
and the lovely church important to the Cathars. Our drive continues
through the beautiful countryside to the Medieval Templar church at
Cubieres. Then we continue through the spectacular Gorge de Galamus
cliffs and deeply carved river valley. Here we visit the Hermitage of
St. Antoine which is carved into the steep cliff face with the magic
square coded Sator Rotas Templar carving. Potluck picnic lunch in Gorge
Galamus. Dinner back at Les Labadous, not included in tour price. (Price
for dinner is 19€ for 2 courses and 25€ for 3 courses)
Day 7 – Friday, May 22:
Breakfast. Morning free to walk the local paths or just rest, integrate
and journal. Noon departure for Limoux for lunch in the town square.
We walk to the church of St. Martin with its beautiful stained glass
windows and statue of the mysterious martyred healer St. Lucy. Then
we drive to the nearby and famous Notre Dame de Marceille church to
experience the Black Madonna and enigmatic symbols on the ceiling. We
will visit the Well of Visions located here and listen for our personal
guidance. This is said to be a site honored by the gypsies, where they
once settled below the church next to the river, which will prepare
us for the next segment of our pilgrimage. Return to Les Labadous for
a light potluck meal and time to pack and take a last walk in the Valley
of God.
Day 8 – Saturday, May 23:
Breakfast. We depart for Les Saintes Maries de la Mer where we will
attend the famous Gypsy Festival where gypsies have gathered for millennia
to celebrate their patron saint and black Madonna, Saint Sarah Kali.
We will explore the deeper mysteries of her crypt within the 9th century
church and its abundant Magdalene images. This was once an ancient pilgrimage
site for the Celts who came to receive healing from the Goddess of the
ancient spring located here.

Les Saintes Maries de la Mer is a picturesque fishing village located
on the Mediterranean coast, where, according to legend and also early
Christian documents, Mary Magdalene arrived by boat from the Holy Land.
Also said to be on that boat were Lazarus, Martha, Joseph of Arimathea,
Mary Jacobe and Mary Salome, as well as Sarah who some legends say was
the daughter of Magdalene and Jesus. French legend says that this holy
family of Jesus spread the teachings of Jesus all across Southern France.
Dinner on our own in town. Prices range from 12€ for ala carte
and salads and up, according to your tastes. We will spend three nights
here.
(Magdalene arrives in France,
15th century Book of Hours)
Day
9 – Sunday, May 24:
Breakfast. Today is the day of the famous Gypsy Festival Celebration.
The gypsy men gather outside the church, mounted on their great white
horses, descendents of the lineage of horses that once ran wild in this
cowboy country of France known as the Camargue. The Gitane (gypsies)
stand proud with their long lances with a half moon on the top, an ancient
symbol of the Goddess.
The caskets
containing the bones of the Maries are carried out of the church in
a procession led by the Gypsy Men. Hundreds parade to the Mediterranean
Sea for the annual baptism and purification in the salt water…the
very same waters that most likely brought Mary Magdalene and St. Sarah
here 2000 years ago. Lunch and dinner will be on our own in town. There
is a large selection of restaurants with fresh seafood to choose from!
Day
10 – Monday, May 25:
Breakfast. Group sharing circle on the beach. We will have time to swim,
relax, sing, listen to the wind, the waters whispering our own personal
message. This place carries the memories of thousands of years of a
history that was forgotten, when the elements and the voice of the Great
Mother rang strong. We can choose to rejoin the last day of festivities
or just relax on the beach and integrate and journal. But be sure not
to miss the gypsy music and dancing….be forewarned that it may
be addictive! We will all meet for our farewell dinner. (Dinner included
in the tour cost).
Day
11 – Tuesday, May 26:
Breakfast. We give thanks to beautiful, magical France and bid adieu
before driving to Montpellier for departures to the USA or to other
individual destinations. And as the old Celtic song says: May the Circle
be open but unbroken, may the love of the Goddess be ever in your heart—merry
meet and merry part and merry meet again!
